On May 12, 2008 the “2008 Sichuan earthquake” (or Great Wenchuan Earthquake) reached 7.9 on the richter scale. In the middle of the earthquake area is the Wolong National Nature Reserve, which houses about 150 highly endangered Giant Pandas. Most of them are doing well now.
