How To Keep Your Blog Fresh and Always Filled With Content

March 7, 2008 – 4:02 am

Do you know that the hardest part of blogging is posting quality content regularly. If you can overcome this part then blogging is for you because writing good blog posts is not for everyone and it takes time.

So how can you keep adding fresh content all the time?blog content and fresh content
When it comes to supplying updated content to your blog you’ve 5 options:

  • Write it yourself:
This is the normal, and of course it’s the best but it’s the hardest way. You’ve to make sure that your information is correct & well researched. You need to read a lot to know enough about your blog subject.
  • Use PLR articles:
I’ve mentioned this in a previous post about private label articles, but If you wanna go this way, you still have to completely rewrite every sentence, this way you won’t publish duplicate content.
  • Free content from article directories:
I don’t really like this option, but I’m writing about it because sometimes it works for long tail keywords (words that has less competition & enough searches). I would use it, if I find a very good article and some how I can extend the article by adding some introduction, examples, case studies and a conclusion.
  • Invite guest bloggers:
This approach of adding quality content to your blog is getting so popular now, as it’s win-win-win strategy for the guest blogger, the blog and the blog readers. You see this a lot in popular blogs too and specially when the blogger is taking a short break and needs to keep his blog busy.
  • Hire a ghost writer:
This is another good option, it’ll cost you money not your time. With this option you can get exactly what you want by giving specific instructions to the ghost writers. You can also be a guest blogger and get an extra exposure at high traffic blogs. Here is a quick guide about ghost writing: The guest blogger guide to the blogosphere - http://piggybankpie.com/guest-blogging/

For the last couple of options, I would like to introduce you to the writing service from PiggyBankPie.
In addition of their content writing service from guests & ghostwriters, PiggyBankPie.com also offers other writing projects such as ebook, report, pitch page, newsletter, and more…
As a bonus, the link to the purchased post will be posted on PiggyBankPie.com. One more thing that I found interesting is when ordering their writing service you can get a review post or a banner ad for a month depending on how much is your order..

Here are some samples of guest blogger from Piggy Bank Pie:

February 23, 2008 – 12:43 am

Blog headlines or main titles are the first thing your readers and potential readers will see. If you areblog title tips using RSS feeds, then headlines are the first thing that will appear in the subscriber’s inbox. There is a certain appeal to great headlines that makes people click through. And remember that most online users scan headlines & don’t read a blog post or an article unless the headline is attractive.

Here are some suggestions for good headline.

1. Spark Curiosity

How to Lose 30 Pounds in 7 days - is a good idea to make people wonder and click through. If you get stuck in a headline (”How to” type of title is a life saver). Everybody wanna know how to do something or how one thing works. Most people are curious by nature.

2. Offer Solution

Finally An Easy Solution to Save Money on Electricity Bills. Most people search online for specific solutions, even solutions to problems that are never mentioned in books. To attract this type of readers mention the problem and a creative solution in the headline.

3. Latest Information

Britney Loses Custody of Kids - will get people clicking through to read.( Of course if it’s updated information). There are always new information and news concerning any niche. So mixing latest information type of titles will keep your visitors coming for more.

4. Breakthrough or discoveries

War in Iraq-What has it Got to do with your electricity Bills? - relate your question with some important news & you’ll make your readers wanna read more…

6. Alert, Warning & (fear)

Bird Flu alert - If you fear something, it makes you wanna read & learn more about it. This can cause terror that makes people click through to read. ( Just don’t scare your readers much. :))

In reality, everyone does something for certain reasons. This is where you use your creativity for creating dazzling headlines that attracts and retains online readers.

As a bonus, if your blog title is attractive you’ll gain more clicks from the major search engines too. Search engines pick the title of your blog post and show it as a link in the result pages, so even if your title is optimized for search engines but is not attractive then you won’t get the maximum clicks. A good title for both readers & search engines is a formula you should try to figure out.

Is Starting A News Blog a Good Idea?

February 8, 2008 – 11:40 pm

news blog - starting a new blogNews blogs are growing in popularity each day. There are many factors that contribute to this development. The popularity of such blogs, along with the high rate of readership and reader loyalty of such blogs are just some of the reasons why people start a news blog. However, there are some issues to be considered seriously before you decide to start a news blog of your own.

First of all, starting a news blog is a great responsibility. A news blog is a blog that depicts the latest happenings in the particular niche that they are blogging. In order to sustain readership and loyalty, those stories have to be very accurate and timely. If those two crucial elements are not met, it spells disaster for your news blogs!

Basically there are two types of news blogs:
(One deals with time sensitive real-time information & the other you can call it a passive news blog)

1- Real-Time News Blogs

Real-time news blog involves materials that need to be published as soon as it occurs. This is called a real-time news blog. If you want to start a real time news blog, make sure you have access to timely data and be ready to publish them on your new blog as soon as they are available. If you have good contacts with reporters or people from all over the world, this is a good option for you. Real time news blogs are very popular and can get you rapid growth in the numbers of readership.

The issue is however to be able to get your hands on those relevant materials on time for publishing before anyone else does!

2- Passive News Blogs

This is a more passive form of news blogs; they are more relaxed in nature when compared to real-time news blog. Passive news blog resembles a review by the blogger of the current happenings. They are writing their own thoughts and perspective of their own interpretation of the current events. Therefore it is much more distorted view of the real event than accurate facts. If you don’t have the resources to start real-time blog but still desires the allure news blog have, starting a passive news blog is a good idea.

News blog is just one type of blogs, there are many other type of blogs I will mention later, like personal blogs, sales blogs, corporate blogs, customer support blog, product blog and so on… So just before you start your new blog project, learn what type of blogs you wanna maintain & it’s benefits.

Fresh Content vs. Duplicate Content - & Blogging

January 31, 2008 – 9:47 pm

Some people love PLR articles. They are cheap, comes in bulk and you can use them for various purposes. Yes, PLR articles are great but they can create issues of duplicate content, unless you substantially change them.

If you don’t know about PLR articles, they are simply ready (researched & written) articles for you to change however you want. So you can easily take 1 article and re-write it in about less than 10 minutes. It’s that fast because the idea and the research of the content already done & all you have to do is just write the article on your own words. Of course you can use a PLR article as it is but I don’t think you will benefit much this way.

BTW: PLR is short for Private Label rights, which gives you the right to change any text and add your name as the original writer.

When it comes to your blog, why are duplicate content less preferable than original contents? The answer is simple…

Top search engines like Google/Yahoo/MSN find and index only fresh contents (most of the time). In fact too much of a duplicate content will cause your site or blog to be penalized by those engines. If you want to rank well in the search engines this is something you want to avoid.

It makes sense, because the search engine job is to provide the best, freshest and most accurate search results.

Therefore original content is the answer to avoid such penalties and ensure your blog does rise in standing against other sites on those search engines.

If you are a fan of PLR articles (or you suffer from a writer’s block) you should not use them as they are. Get the ideas, and research from these articles and present them in your own words.

Here is my recommendation for the top PLR monthly membership sites:

PLR Articles

  • Content Goldmine (back door entry)
This one provides 10 niches & 10 articles for each niche plus other stuff…
  • Nicheology (back door entry)
& this is the leader of PLR books - 2 books with sales letters & more…
  • Health Niche Articles
If you’re into the Health niche this one have more than 2oo articles in 4 different niches & very good quality. The person who runs the site is a nurse.
  • Health Niche Books
And this one provides 2 health books in different niches from same people who runs the above site.
  • Niche Content Elite
This is another one that gives lots of articles in many different niches (16 niche a month) they also have different memberships level.

How To Create Compelling Blog Posts

January 25, 2008 – 9:11 pm

How to Create Compelling Posts? (That people actually read)

blog post writing tipsLet’s not waste time and get to the basics.

Content is King. There is no doubt about it. Search engines love ‘em and your visitor want them on a consistent basis. If you do not provide those contents that everybody wants, you will lose both of your target visitors-(the human visitor) and the search engine spiders.(the bots). And you don’t wanna lose either one of them…

Here are 10 commandments for writing good blog posts:

  1. Fresh and original -They need to be fresh to be indexed by the spiders of search engines.
  2. Useful -People can use them and create a change in their live.
  3. Informative - teach and share instead of complaining or drooling without reason.
  4. Relevant- stay to your niche.
  5. Accurate Spelling - Just run a quick spell check before posting.
  6. Good Grammar - Not perfect, just good enough to make it easy for your readers.
  7. Be honest - List the Pros & Cons - not just the Pros.
  8. Give Credits - state your resources and cites.
  9. More content than ads - you’ll get more readers this way.
  10. Good research - Real fact needs good research.

How To Know If Your Blog Is A Popular Blog

January 17, 2008 – 11:41 pm

Everyone dreams of turning their little blogging enterprise into the next success story. Yet this worthwhile dream can never be realized without paying the price necessary to get to the intended destination. When you have invested substantial amount of money, time and energy building and promoting your blog, how do you know if your blog is a popular blog in the blogosphere?

There are many ways you can measure the popularity of a blog. Here are six ways you can use to measure, evaluate and discover if your blog is a popular blog. Probably most bloggers are using these resources.

Measurement #1: Total RSS Feed Subscribers

RSS feed subscribers is a good indicator to detect if a blog is a popular blog. RSS feeds lets those people subscribed to it know when a new post is been made via email alerts. Popular blogs definitely are ones with thousands of feed subscribers. ( I should add a counter for this )
For instance, JohnChow is a popular blog & its RSS subscribers # is high

JohnChow rss readers

Measurement # 2: Technorati

This is actually a search engine that tags and indexed blog and have several measurements of their own. One popular term is called authority, whereby each links you get to your blog is represented by a rise in Authority count. “Total Favorited” is another measurement stick used in Technorati platform and the more a blog gets “favorited”, the more it is considered a popular blog.

TechCrunch technorati

Measurement#3: Total inbound links

Even off the Technorati platforms, you can discover how many inbound links pointing to your blog. Again, popular blogs are the ones with high inbound links, with other bloggers using your materials and pointing back to your site.

Measurement #4: Total Visitors

If a blog is a popular blog, it makes sense to have tons of visitors, ain’t it? The total visitors to a blog is another indicator of a popular blog.

Measurement#5: Social Bookmarking Sites

Social networking/bookmarking sites like Del.ici.ous, reddit and StumbleUpon is a wonderful place to get measurements of your blog. These social sites are great places to create waves about your blog if you can come up with a creative and really interesting entry! If you get voted into the first page of these social bookmarking sites, this is a fantastic way to turn your little blog into a popular blog! & don’t forget PostOnFire.com is growing rapidly and it’s a social bookmarking specifically for bloggers.

PostOnFire logo - blog social bookmarking

Measurement #6: Comments & lots of good comments

An indication that people reading your posts, is how many comment (good comments) each blog post receive.

There are few more indications like how many pages indexed in the search egines, PR, Alexa Ranking…Do you have more measurement? …. share it here & comment…
