So, now that the dust is beginning to settle on the recent introduction of Apple's newest and greatest MacBook's, the question, in my mind, is how well will they sell? Apparently, if you take a glance at the top ten best selling list from Amazon, that would be amazingly well, as recently reported by MacDailyNews. And the really amazing thing, in all of this, is the simple fact that the new MacBook's are not only already selling well, but are selling well indespite of Apple's famous high prices!Apparently, Apple really does know best, and, I guess, this is also true when it comes to pricing. After all, as Piper Jaffray analyst, Andrew Murphy, wrote in an e-mail yesterday, when it comes to Apple, " They've never done cheap well - but the $999 MacBook is a good start."I have to admit, that even though I thought that the new models would sell, I didn't exactly expect, for a moment, that they would sell that well, or sell quite that fast! Of course, the truth of the matter, is that these machines are all first class acts, luxury models that are premarily aimed at the well-to-do in the first place. They are not perfect mind you, but then again, no laptop, note book, net book, or what ever you wish to call them is.

8 Vote(s)

Apple's "Let's Rock" presentation has come and gone and, as expected, what came out of the event were new iPod Nano's, Classic's, Shuffle's and the star of the show, a new and greatly improved iPod Touch, in addition to an updated iTune's, now at version 8.0, and two brand new sets of iPod ear buds. Also, yesterday's had a big surprise - NBC announced that it was returning to iTunes! This was totally unexpected, but, none-the-less, a very welcome development for iTunes which now boasts a catalog of over 8,500,000 different songs! With well over five billion songs sold, iTune's is the largest distributor of music and movies in the U.S. by far!Regarding the iPod Nano, it now comes in nine vibrant colors and sports a thinner and a slightly curved aluminum form factor and now features an accelerometer that can easily transport you instantly, with a flip of the wrist, into the iPod's Cover Flow mode or it's the shuffle mode. Nicer still, is the fact that Nano's now come, like all iPod's, with newer and much lower prices, namely $149 for the 8 GB version and $199 for the 16 GB model. The iPod Shuffle itself, though not directly mentioned by Mr. Jobs, was basically unchanged except for getting some new hand-me-down colors and the lower price points of $49 and $69 for both the 1 and 2 GB versions

9 Vote(s)

Steve Ballmer, Microsoft's colorful CEO, and other top executives, no doubt, where all smiles as the press seemingly gave their thumbs up in their reviews of the upcoming Explorer 8. Explorer 8 has been getting rave reviews for basically offering what other browsers already have been offering, such as Safari's "Private Browsing" feature, which Explorer 8 calls, "In Private". Unfortunately, despite all the praise for Explorer's stability, security and what have you, Mr. Ballmer's face is probably anything but smiling now. The reason is that Microsoft's paranoia over all things Google is about to boil over as the long held rumors of Google entering Explorer's turf turns out to be true after all. It is now being wildly reported that Google is unleashing a direct competitor and threat to both Explorer and Firefox called Chrome!Google's Chrome browser is being made available earlier than expected after Google accidentally released a 'comic style' media release. Chrome is being described as being much faster, more secure and more stable than other browsers and was designed with the next generation of web content, such as internet banking, chat, web-based games and video in mind.

13 Vote(s)

Regarding the Mac's growing adoption rate in the enterprise market, the Balitmore Sun recently stated that:"Apple's success with consumers has begun to spill over into the enterprise market, with Mac adoption among enterprise customers increasing four-fold in less than two years.Mac use in businesses rose from 1.1 percent in October 2006 to 4.5 percent in June of this year, according to a report by analyst Benjamin Gray of Forrester Research released Friday and made public by eWeek's Joe Wilcox. While 4.5 percent of the enterprise market may appear puny next to the nearly 95 percent held by Microsoft's Windows, it is nevertheless startling that the Mac has made any headway at all in a market in which it had languished for years."Yes, the Mac is indeed back, both in the consumer and now the business market as well. Of course, as many know, the ubiquitous iPod and now the iPhone has played a crucial role in exposing the Mac to the public. This has resulted in the Mac suddenly becoming discovered by literally millions of new people who would have never given it a mere glance before. In turn, these legends of new and contented Mac switchers have been bringing their enthusiasm for all things Mac back to their work places, and thus exposing the positive benefits to their employers as well, and, as we can plainly see, resulting in more Mac's being used there.

16 Vote(s)

Apple is one company that acts like a virtual lighting rod when it comes to generating publicity. It really doesn't matter what it does, or what it doesn't do, it's every action, or lack there of, will elicit an outpouring of comment and analysis from the traditional main press to that of a million bloggers the world over. So, for this last post of the week, I thought that I would take a look at the funnier side of Apple, so go ahead and enjoy the funnier side of Apple via the world of YouTube. My first take is a funny look about the not so funny state of Steve Job's health. It doesn't really matter if Steve, or anyone else for that matter, assures us that he is healthy, people for what ever reasons, will publish just about anything that they can use to prove that he is not. But as Macenstein recently pointed out, and as you can plainly see, the YouTube video below proves, absolutely beyond any reason of a doubt, that Steve is in fact as healthy as they come.

13 Vote(s)

Another day, and yet another iMac wannabe copy cat computer emerges. This time its from one of the world's most leading and successful high tech companies, HP, who recently unveiled it's second version of their Touch Smart PC.The first Touch Smart PC was, in comparison, an ugly duckling. The second version, however, has matured into a very elegant and beautiful swan and it now joins a crowded and ever growing list of all-in-one machines that have been inspired to mimic and kill off Apple's hugely successful iMac. The HP stands out, however, in one particular and noticeable area - touch screen technology! Not even the iMac itself can presently boast of such capabilities.I've played with the new Touch Smart and I must say that it is, without a doubt, probably the best all-in-one, iMac inspired, PC that I have yet seen to date. It's high-definition 22" inch screen is big, bright, colorful and pleasant to work with. Unfortunately, what really helps to make the screen so beautiful - the glass - is also extremely reflective. All such glass screens, the iMac's included, have this same problem, but for some reason, for me at least, the HP model seems to be even more reflective than most of the others.

24 Vote(s)

Wow! It's absolutely incredible, but the new iPhone G3 introduction, over the weekend, has not only been a smashing success, it has sold approximately an incredible four times as many phones over the weekend - a scant three days, as did the original iPhone did last year! According to Apple's CEO, Steve Jobs: "iPhone 3G had a stunning opening weekend."But just how stunning has it been? Well, according to a report by AppleInsider, Apple sold as many as a million plus iPhone G3's over the weekend. The first gen iPhone, which was an amazing run away success, took almost two and one-half months to accomplish the same. I would say that was indeed a stunning achievement, and as AppleInsinder also reported:"The three day sales total is sure to send a shriver down the spines of rival handset makers...."In an other report they pointed out that in spite of all of the problems, that people had getting their new iPhone activated, Apple's new App Store still reported an equally amazing number of downloads for the same period - some ten million of them! Truly, the App Store is just as big as a success as the iPhone is itself.

18 Vote(s)

Well, where else, from where they have mostly always have - they are coming from the field of dreams that just happens to have it's address at 1 Infinite Loop, Cuupertino, Calfornia.Zach Bass recently wrote an interesting article titled, "Apple Imitations: Just Like the iPhone, Only Crappier," for SeekingAlpha that outlines how tech companies and organizations like Dell, HP, Gateway, Microsoft, or Linux, have all one thing in common - they continue to advance by ritually copying many, if not all, of Apple's innovations, but never quite equalling them.
